The technology of misting systems using pyrethrums has been used for the past 40 or more years.

Initially, misting was used on dairy farms to control flies, because if flies were controlled, it was observed that cows were more content, resulting in increased milk production. Shortly afterwards, the misting system technology was installed in stables to protect expensive race horses against serious or debilitating diseases spread by insects.

About ten years ago, an entrepreneur decided to try the system outside for residential mosquito control. Since then, there have been more than 30,000 systems installed worldwide, and approximately 20,000 of those have been MistAway systems.
